Lily

Lily is three and a half, which she will tell you herself, holding up the wrong number of fingers. She runs everything in the house and most things outside it. If something got drawn on, named, or grieved this week, it was probably her.

Becca keeps the whole family running and the whole family's stories, usually at the same time. She's the one who notices the small stuff first — the new word, the changed bedtime, the face Jackson only makes at 6am. She started writing it down because she was tired of saying "I'll remember this" and then not.

Jackson is new here and very busy — mostly with his own feet, which remain a surprise daily. He communicates in shrieks, gummy grins, and one specific look that means trouble is coming. He won't remember any of this, which is exactly why someone's writing it down.

Grandma Jane lives a few hours away and refuses to miss a thing, which is how she ended up with her own gallery. She remembers things about the kids' parents that the kids' parents have conveniently forgotten. Her commentary is unsolicited, frequently correct, and always loving.
